In The Wings: Thick & Tight working on Natural Behaviour

Dance theatre company Thick & Tight will be holding an informal open rehearsal and work-in-progress sharing of new work created during a residency with An Tobar and Mull Theatre. This will be followed by a Q&A. This event is free to attend.

An Tobar and Mull Theatre is supporting us to undertake a week long residency, to develop work for ‘Natural Behaviour’. At the end of the week, we will hold an informal sharing of this work plus a Q&A with local people who are interested in and might possibly also like to share their experience of:

-       Nature

-       Mull & Iona

-       Being an islander

-       Being from an LGBTQI+ background

-       Having their own artistic practice

-       Being concerned about global warming

Who are we:

Thick & Tight is an award-winning dance theatre company, whose work has been presented extensively in the UK and internationally. Their work combines dance with lip-syncing, mime, drag and satire. Thick & Tight investigate a range of queer and intersectional issues and figures, drawing on historical, political, ecological, literary and artistic subjects, using creativity to challenge and dispel social stigma.

What are we up to:

Thick & Tight are embarking on the creation of ‘Natural Behaviour’, a new body of work which will explore queer ecology. This subject exposes how the natural world is sometimes weaponised against marginalised people or communities; for example, how ideas of ‘natural’ or ‘unnatural’ lives and behaviours are rewarded or punished within our societies. We are interested in exploring how diversity and ‘queerness’ is both natural and essential to all life on Earth. Through extensive research with a variety of artists, communities and experts in this field, we will create a series of performed portraits of non-human life forms as well as works which look at humans from the perspective of nature. Though queer ecology is conceptual, theoretic and scientific, we aim for this work to be accessible and entertaining to a broad spectrum of society!

Free to attend but booking is essential
