100 years of Mull Geology

With James Westland and John Faithfull

In 1924, a geological blockbuster was published – the Geological Survey’s memoir - to accompany the amazing Mull geological map issued in 1923.

The memoir’s ground-breaking new science had a huge global influence on the way we understand, and think about, volcanoes and volcanic rocks.

We will celebrate this wonderful book, looking at some of the key places and rocks in Mull on which its science was based. And we will look at how some of that science has developed over the century since.
