What will we do?
During this free session, we will introduce verbatim theatre, explore some key storytelling techniques, and discuss how we might make theatre using interviews, diaries, and photographs. We also want to hear about the kinds of stories that interest you.
The workshop is open to anyone aged 40+. It will be run by a lecturer and graduate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) as part of their research for a project called Empty Chair.
What is Verbatim Theatre?
Verbatim theatre is a form of documentary theatre which is based on the words of real people. Creating a piece often involves conducting interviews and editing the material together to be performed by actors. Famous examples include Gregory Burke’s Black Watch, Gary McNair’s Locker Room Talk and Alecky Blythe’s London Road.
What is Empty Chair?
Empty Chair is an intergenerational verbatim theatre project exploring loss and loneliness. The project is led by Eve Jamieson and Ben Standish and is based in Mull and Glasgow. It begins by making connections with people through workshops and discussions groups, and will eventually culminate in a piece of live, verbatim theatre.
This workshop is for ages 50+ and free, with tea and cake, could you please bring headphones when attending.
