You're Invited: The Grand Opening of An Tobar’s New Creative Spaces!

Join us for a special launch event to celebrate the opening of An Tobar and Mull Theatre’s brand-new creative spaces on Thursday, 20th March 2025, at 7pm.

Thanks to generous funding from the Charlotte Aitken Trust and Wooden Spoon and the hard work of our team, we are thrilled to unveil The Charlotte Aitken Creative Writing Centre and Production Studio, and a new Sensory Corner—transformative spaces designed to inspire, support, and empower creativity in our community.

What to Expect:
Live Performances & Readings – Experience the magic of our new spaces in action, featuring music and spoken word performances from artists we work with including readings from John Kefala Kerr and a live performance at 8.30pm from Phil Bancroft’s The Beautiful Storm, tickets available from here.

Exclusive Tours – Step inside the fully equipped Writers’ Studio and Production Suite, explore our state-of-the-art Music, Film, Sound production and Visual Arts Production Studio, and discover the calming and inclusive Sensory Corner.

Meet the Creatives – Hear from the artists, writers, and young people who will bring these spaces to life.

Drinks & Nibbles – Raise a glass with us as we mark this incredible milestone for creativity on Mull!

These new facilities are more than just rooms—they are a commitment to nurturing the voices, stories, and artistic expression of our island community for generations to come.

This event is free and open to all—a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the power of storytelling.

Come and be part of this exciting new chapter for An Tobar and Mull Theatre.

We can’t wait to welcome you!

John Kefela Kerr

John Kefala Kerr is a composer, sound artist and writer. He has had work presented at festivals and venues in the UK, US, Europe and Japan. His poetry has been published by Live Canon, Arachne Press, Porridge Magazine, Crowstep Journal and Magma Poetry. John has held residencies at Durham Cathedral, National Centre for the Written Word, Dove Marine Laboratory and the National Railway Museum. His debut novel Thimio’s House is published by Roundfire Books.

During his 2022/23 Associate Artist Residency at An Tobar and Mull Theatre, John developed an audio-visual installation inspired by the traditions of weaving and textile production on the island. Entitled Fray, the work combines projected images, poems, digital sound and live weaving. The poems were recently shortlisted in the Magma Poetry Pamphlet Competition and are scheduled for publication by Black Cat Poetry Press in 2026. As part of tonight’s event, John will read a few of the poems from Fray.
