William Arnold – In Conversation
When artist William Arnold began documenting the fluctuating tide line near his home in Cornwall, the strange resulting images provided a starting point for a much wider investigation. These images, exhibited alongside Arnold’s other work at An Tobar until 13th August 2023, offer an unsettling invitation to consider the effects of fluctuating tides - of tourism, sea levels, populations - in a changeable climate. Raising questions about human impact on the beautiful but fragile Celtic fringes of Europe, Arnold’s work presents a local response with global resonance.
Please join William Arnold along with An Tobar and Mull Theatre visual arts curators Nina Pope and Rhona Dougall for an informal ‘in conversation’ event in the gallery. We’ll be discussing some of the parallel experiences in Cornwall and Mull, as well as William’s experimental approach to photographic processes, and working in and with the landscape.
