Exciting Developments at
An Tobar and Mull Theatre
A Message from our Artistic Director and Chief Executive
As we head into the winter months, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about the future of An Tobar and Mull Theatre. Thanks to the generous support of the Charlotte Aitken Trust, we are embarking on a significant period of development that will allow us to continue growing as a vital creative hub on the Isle of Mull.
The cornerstone of these works will be the installation of a new multimedia Production and Recording Suite and dedicated Writer's Residency facilities, which will include a library space for visiting writers. These improvements will provide essential resources to support artists, writers, and creators, enabling us to offer more ambitious projects and artistic opportunities in the years ahead. As part of this, we’re commissioning two stunning new murals—one by local artist Alan Melvin, and another by an artist selected through open call—further enhancing our space as a reflection of our vibrant, creative community.
In addition to the physical enhancements, we’ll be upgrading our technical production stock, including lighting and sound equipment, to keep pace with modern theatre and music demands. To support our team in delivering the best possible experiences, we’ll be running new training programmes in both technical production and marketing, ensuring our staff are equipped with the latest skills.
While these developments are hugely exciting, they do mean that, for a time, our buildings will be closed to the public while the work is carried out. Rest assured, our team will continue to deliver our Creative Learning Programme during this period, and we are working hard to ensure the disruption is minimal.
We look forward to unveiling these new spaces and sharing the incredible opportunities they will bring with you. Thank you for your continued support as we invest in the future of the arts on Mull.
Rebecca Atkinson-Lord
Artistic Director and Chief Executive.
